Cinglan^®

Cinglan^® contains the active substance cinacalcet.

Cinglan^® works by controlling the levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH), calcium and phosphate in the body. It is intended to treat problems with the parathyroid glands.

The parathyroid glands consist of four small glands in the neck that are close to the thyroid glands and produce parathyroid hormone (PTH).

Cinglan^® is used in adults:

• To treat secondary hyperparathyroidism in adult patients with severe kidney disease who need dialysis to clear their blood of metabolites.
• To lower high blood calcium levels (hypercalcaemia) in adult patients with parathyroid carcinoma.
• To lower high blood calcium levels (hypercalcaemia) in adult patients with primary hyperparathyroidism in whom removal of the parathyroid gland is not possible.

Cinglan^® is used in children aged 3 to under 18 years:

• For the treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients with severe kidney disease who require dialysis to clear their blood of metabolites and whose condition cannot be controlled with other treatments.

In primary and secondary hyperparathyroidism, the parathyroid glands produce too much PTH. “Primary” means that the hyperparathyroidism is not caused by any other condition. “Secondary” means that the hyperparathyroidism is caused by another condition, such as kidney disease. Both primary and secondary hyperparathyroidism can result in a loss of calcium in the bones, which can lead to bone pain, fractures, problems with the blood and heart vessels, kidney stones, mental illness and coma.
