Imagerolan® contains the active substance Imatinib.
This medicine works by inhibiting the growth of abnormal cells in the diseases listed below. Some of these diseases are cancers.
Imagerolan® is used in adults and children:
- To treat chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). Leukemia is a cancer of white blood cells. These white cells normally help the body fight off infections. Chronic myeloid leukemia is a type of leukemia in which certain abnormal white cells (called myeloid cells) begin to grow out of control.
- Used to treat Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph-positive ALL). Leukemia is a cancer of the white blood cells. These white cells normally help the body fight off infections. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is a form of leukemia in which certain abnormal white cells (called lymphoblasts) begin to grow uncontrollably. Imagerolan® inhibits the growth of these cells.
Imagerolan® is also used in adults:
- For the treatment of myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative disorders (MDS/MPD). These belong to a group of blood disorders in which certain blood cells begin to grow uncontrollably. Imagerolan® inhibits the growth of these cells in a specific type of these disorders.
- For the treatment of hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) and/or chronic eosinophilic leukemia (CEL). These are blood disorders in which certain blood cells (called eosinophils) begin to grow uncontrollably. Imagerolan® inhibits the growth of these cells in a specific type of these diseases.
- For the treatment of malignant soft tissue tumors of the digestive tract (GIST). GIST is a cancer of the stomach and intestines. It develops due to the uncontrolled growth of connective tissue cells of these organs.
- For the treatment of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP). DFSP is a cancer of the tissue under the skin in which certain cells begin to grow uncontrollably. Imagerolan® inhibits the growth of these cells.
