Amlovalsax® consists of the active substances amlodipine and valsartan. Both substances help to control high blood pressure.
Amlovalsax® is used to treat high blood pressure in adults whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with either amlodipine or valsartan alone.
Amlodipine belongs to a group of substances called “calcium channel blockers”. Amlodipine stops the influx of calcium into the wall of the blood vessels. This prevents the blood vessels from narrowing.
Valsartan belongs to a group of substances called “angiotensin II receptor antagonists”. Angiotensin II is a substance produced naturally in the body that narrows the blood vessels, thereby increasing blood pressure. Valsartan works by blocking the effect of angiotensin II.
This means that these two substances help to prevent the blood vessels from narrowing. As a result, the blood vessels dilate and blood pressure is reduced.
