Atorvalan® contains the active substance atorvastatin.
Atorvalan® belongs to a group of medicines known as statins that regulate blood fats (lipids).
The use of Atorvalan® is indicated in addition to diet to lower elevated levels of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B and triglycerides in adults, adolescents and children aged ten years and older with primary hypercholesterolaemia, including familial hypercholesterolaemia (heterozygous variant) or combined (mixed) hyperlipidaemia (corresponding to type II a and II b according to Fredrickson), when diet and other non-pharmacological measures do not provide sufficient effect.
Atorvalan® is also indicated for lowering total and LDL cholesterol in adults with homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia – either in addition to other lipid-lowering measures (e.g. LDL apheresis) or if such treatment options are not available.
Prevention of cardiovascular disease
For the prevention of cardiovascular events in adult patients who are considered to be at high risk of a first cardiovascular event, in addition to the treatment of other risk factors.
