Convulex® contains the active ingredient sodium valproate.

Convulex® is a medicine used to treat seizure disorders (an anti-epileptic) and mania.

Epilepsy: For treatment of various forms of seizure disorders

Mania:  During which you feel very agitated, elated, restless, enthusiastic or hyperactive. Mania occurs as part of a condition known as bipolar disorder. Convulex® can be used when lithium cannot be used.  Convulex® must only be used to treat manic episodes in adult patients (aged 18 years and over).

Convulex® is available in various dosage forms:

  • Gastro-resistant capsules
  • Extended-release tablets: Sodium valproate is released slowly into the body from the extended-release tablets, and the effect lasts for many hours
