Dutaglandin®

Dutaglandin®

Dutaglandin® contains the active substance dutasteride.

Dutasteride belongs to a group of medicines called 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors.

Dutasteride is used to treat men with enlarged prostates (benign prostatic hyperplasia, BPH). This is a non-cancerous growth of the prostate gland (prostate) caused by increased production of a hormone called dihydrotestosterone.

Due to prostate growth, urinary problems can occur, such as difficulty urinating and frequent urges to urinate. In addition, this can lead to a slowing and weakening of the flow of urine. If left untreated, there is a risk of complete blockage of urine flow (acute urinary retention), which requires immediate medical attention. In some cases, surgery to remove or reduce the size of the prostate may be necessary.

Dutasteride lowers the production of dihydrotestosterone, helping to reduce the size of the prostate and relieve symptoms. It reduces the risk of acute urinary retention and surgical intervention.

Dutasteride can also be taken together with another medicine called tamsulosin (which is used to treat the symptoms of enlarged prostate).
