Letrofam®

Letrofam®

Letrofam® contains the active substance letrozole.

Letrofam® belongs to a group of medicines called aromatase inhibitors. The growth of breast cancer is often promoted by certain female sex hormones (oestrogens). Letrofam® decreases the amount of oestrogens by inhibiting an enzyme (aromatase) that is involved in the formation of oestrogens and can therefore block the growth of breast cancer that needs oestrogen to grow.

Letrofam® is used to treat breast cancer in post-menopausal women. It is used to prevent breast cancer from coming back. It can be used either as the first treatment before breast surgery if immediate surgery is not appropriate, as the first treatment after breast surgery, or after five years of treatment with the drug tamoxifen.

Letrozole is also used to prevent the spread of breast cancer to other parts of the body in patients with advanced disease.
