Micro-Kalium retard contains the active substance potassium chloride.
Micro-Kalium retard is used to treat or prevent hypokalaemia in patients who cannot tolerate, refuse or unreliably take potassium chloride in solution or effervescent tablet form.
Potassium substitution may be considered in the following circumstances:
- Potassium losses in severe diarrhoea, vomiting, gastrointestinal and biliary fistulae, liver cirrhosis, adrenal hyperfunction.
- Potassium losses in high-dose digitalis therapy, digitalis intoxication, treatment with diuretics (except potassium-sparing preparations) or as a result of potassium-free infusion, extensive administration of sodium bicarbonate, treatment with corticosteroids and ACTH, laxative abuse.
- Hypokalaemia associated with hypochloraemic acidosis.
