Simvatin® contains the active substance simvastatin.
Simvatin® belongs to a group of medicines called statins. Simvatin® is a medicine that is used to lower the blood levels of total cholesterol, “bad” cholesterol (LDL cholesterol) and fatty substances. In addition, Simvatin® increases the levels of “good” cholesterol (HDL cholesterol).
Simvatin® is used to treat hypercholesterolaemia in adults, children and adolescents aged 10 to 17 years.
Hypercholesterolaemia
Treatment of primary hypercholesterolaemia or mixed dyslipidaemia concomitant with diet when diet and other non-pharmacological measures (e.g. physical exercise and weight loss) alone are not sufficient.
Treatment of homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia concomitant with diet and other lipid-lowering measures (e.g. LDL apheresis) or when such measures are not appropriate.
Cardiovascular prevention
Reduction of cardiovascular mortality and morbidity in patients with manifest atherosclerotic heart disease or diabetes mellitus whose cholesterol levels are normal or elevated. Concomitant with correction of other risk factors and other cardioprotective therapy.
